Gungho Festival 2019 was held and happily ended on May 26, 2019. With it, came a ton of exciting events, Collab announcements, free stones, and more! This post will be my thoughts and reactions on each announcement, rather than a proper Tier List analysis (the tier list sites have yet to update anyway)
I will be referencing Blogging Mama for each announcement, in case you’re not aware of what the events are happening on JP. Props to them for high quality and well-formatted posts, as usual!
7-stone Super Godfest (JP, past)
Happened for 24 hours on the day of the Gungho Festival 2019. It’s past already, but I thought I’d give my thoughts on it for reasons, and also for NA when it comes to them.
6* GFE + 7* GFE + 7* base Pantheons featured comes out at 1.5% per, for a total of 33%. Absolutely great value, considering it’s only 7 stones per roll instead of the usual 10. Great time to be rolling IF you’re missing over half of the the GFE cast. Otherwise, I’d imagine players at this point will have most of the GFEs anyway.
Godly value if you’re new or even semi-new. Pretty good still if you’re close to a veteran. Probably little value if you’re veteran and have 80%+ of the featured cards already, unless you’re collecting GFE for trading.
This REM probably has more value for NA considering there aren’t very many Collabs coming their way, comparatively. For JP players however, because of the announcements of very many high-profile collabs (MH, Champion, FF, AOT, Yokai), should be more conservative of their stones (yes, I rolled too much and regretted)
Check out the details at the link above, if you aren’t informed. Anyway, we get some cute musicians joining Puzzle and Dragons. This REM is similar to is 10 stones per roll, similar to the format of Heroines and Dragon Bound Dragon Caller.
As much as their art and animation being quite impressive, the actual cards don’t carry much value themselves. At least, not fitting enough for the 10 stone per roll price point.
Starting from 5*, only Lotta Lotta hold some value (albeit niche) for having a strong 100x counterattack. Counterattack shenanigans here. The other 3 don’t have the awakens nor the actives to show for themselves.
Some of the 6* rolls aren’t bad, but rolling these diamond eggs and not the 7* still feel like a huge dud. The actives here can be useful for farming.
And finally we get to the supposed 7* gems of this REM. Cute and superb animations as usual, but ability-wise, they aren’t as mind-blowing as many people have anticipated. The leader skills of each are decent, and some new mechanics were introduced (minus move time as a leader skill, “reduce unable to match orb status” active skill) However, the near uselessness of the lower rarity rolls is quite off-putting.
I personally wouldn’t recommend rolling in this REM, other than for like 4 rolls for collection purposes. I wouldn’t recommend trading for any 7*, either. Going to have to wait for Gungho to beef this up for future reruns.
Might as well call this game Puzzle and Collabs. During the Gungho Festival, Gungho has confirmed for the following collabs:
Yokai Watch (Komasan S getting even stronger?)
Monster Hunter (didn’t we just have Monster Hunter like 2 months ago? I’m not complaining though)
Attack on Titan (about time)
Final Fantasy (again, about time, HYPE)
Shonen Champion (it’s another shonen magazine. Has Yowamushi Pedal amongst other series)
No news on the promised Devil May Cry Collab that was announced during the 7th anniversary. Looking at you YamaP.
Anyway, a ton of great collabs lined up for the next few months. Save your stones!
I don’t know how Gungho can still be top 5 grossing in the AppStore/Google Play, but they just keep giving out free stones like candy. This time, it’s 77 stones for the Gungho Festival itself, plus 20+20=40 stones total for 2 successful challenges at the venue. This comes to a 117 stones. And didn’t JP just receive a batch of 100 for Reiwa at the beginning of May?
Just wow. Haven’t spent money at all for the past 2 years and counting.
Story mode coming soon
As much as I welcome any new way to play Puzzle and Dragons, the trailer that was shown just showed dialog between the starter dragons. I hope it goes beyond just reading a visual novel. Waiting to see what Gungho has in store for us.
On top of Bathena being added permanently to the Trading Post, she also received buffs as outlined in the link. Not a bad trade, though I won’t have much use for her and would rather hold onto my medals for better trades in the future. She’s here to stay anyway; no rush.
Gungho made the Super Woke Sonia sisters great again, by giving them a third 7c awakening. Most GFE received Limitbreaks and Super Awakenings. DMeta becomes even more Meta. What more needs to be said?
But perhaps the most anticipated part of the Gungho Festival, is the reveal of new Evolutions. The ones that caught my eye:
Mega Awoken Skuld: Move over Fatalis, a new Goddess is in town. Just kidding; Skuld’s new evo makes Water “L” parties a thing, however her damage is far weaker than Fatalis’s. But given the Time Goddesses have been around for years, many players should have access to an easy and speedy quest-clearing lead.
Super Reincarnated Minerva: Her sword is huge; imagine holding a sword as big as your entire body. Yeah we don’t get that too often. Now we get another style of playing: matching L other than the main attacking color. With rows buffed, I can definitely see some high numbers with Minerva. Still prone to the same rows weakness of being orb hungry and weak to Resolves, however.
Super Reincarnated Meimei: And finally, Gungho once again demonstrates their uncanny favouritism for Wood cards. Meimei comes out on top for having 2 7c, as well as a devil and dragon killer. While still being weaker to Zela, she easily beats out Minerva and Haku.
And last but not least, we have
DISCLAIMER: (quoted from SetsuPAD)
On all current and future Aggregate/Tier lists: “Don’t take these ratings as fact; I encourage you to simply take them as a starting point for discussion to figure out which leads are actually the best for your specific situation.”
Cards you own that are not on these Tier Lists are not automatically non-viable, and cards you own that are on these Tier Lists are not automatically viable.
These tier lists pretty much assume BEST and OPTIMAL subs (often hard-to-acquire GFEs/collab cards) tackling hard dungeons (3-Player Rushes, Alt Arena, Arena 4, etc.) Therefore, their uses largely depend on your box, your progression in PAD, and personal puzzling + comboing skills.
